Description: Join the Armed Forces Emergency Services (AFES) Team. Present on-site informative briefings for military personnel and their families regarding the important services available from the American Red Cross. Responsibilities may include participating in Indoctrinations, Pre-Deployment Fairs, and participating in various community events. Time Committment: Minimum of 2-3 presentations or participate in 1-2 other outreach activities annually. Minimum commitment 6 months. Skills: Public Speaking Written and oral communication skills. Basic computer skills. Team-oriented. Detail oriented. Reliable. Resourceful. Familiarity with military helpful, but not required. Location: Cape Cod and Islands Chapter and OTIS Airforce Base
DEVELOPMENT & COMMUNICATIONS Archivist Description: Support our chapter by monitoring various media formats. Track and collect articles and references of chapter activities and mange information in accordance with department needs. Develop system for intake and categorization for past, present and future items. Time commitment: Minimum 4 hours per week. Minimum commitment 6 months. Can be performed away from office. Skills: Ability to work well in groups and independently. Written and oral communication skills. Intermediate computer skills (MS Office Suite). Detail oriented. Reliable. Resourceful. DISASTER SERVICES Community Disaster Education Presenter Description: Together We Prepare! Be a part of out motto by becoming a trained presenter who will educate others in disaster preparedness. Presentations are usually done by appointment throughout the county to various companies, civic groups, and other local organizations.
Time commitment: Minimum commitment 6 month that includes at least 3-4 presentations. Skills: Desire and ability to teach. Ability to present content in a consistent manner. Strong organizational skills. Strong time management skills. Public speaking or training experience is preferred but not required. We are also in critical need of bi-lingual (Spanish) presenters. Location: Varies
Disaster Action Team Member Description: Our DAT Team responds to local disasters (fires, floods, mudslides, etc.) throughout Barnstable, Duke and Nantucket in order to assess damage, determine immediate needs and provide relief assistance to clients. Training is provided. Supervisory and leadership opportunities are also available. Weekly “on-call” shifts are scheduled. We average 3-4 incidents per month. Skills: Ability to work well in groups and independently. Ability to work in noisy, hectic, emotionally charged settings. Customer service skills. Written and oral communication skills. HEALTH & SAFETY Volunteer Instructor Description: Teach life-saving skills such as First Aid, CPR, and AED to a wide range of individuals from around our county. Fees for training will be reimbursed for those who teach 3 classes within 6 months. Time commitment: It varies: weekdays, evenings, weekends. Minimum 6 month commitment. Must teach at least 2 courses per year to remain certified. Skills: Desire and ability to teach. Ability to present content in a consistent manner. Strong organizational skills. Strong time management skills. Physically able to lift manikins and overall mobility to stoop, crouch, lift and push. Training experience is preferred but not required. We are also in critical need of bi-lingual (Spanish) instructors. Location: varies
Training Support Description: Join our Health & Safety department and ensure a strong training program. Responsibilities may include basic customer services roles such as course registration. Product sales, data-entry of customer records, file management, and other basic logistical and administrative tasks. Time commitment: Weekdays. Minimum 4 hours per week. Minimum commitment 6 months . VOLUNTEER RESOURCES Office Squad Description: We can’t respond to emergencies, teach life-saving skills, and develop stronger communities with the support of our Office Squad! Support daily chapter operations with a variety of administrative tasks that may include front-desk reception, data-entry, filing, inventorying / maintaining supplies, and other basic but critical functions. Opportunities exist in all of our departments. Time commitment: 4 hours per week. Weekdays. Minimum commitment 6 months. Skills: Written and oral communication skills. Volunteer Coordinator Description: Support the Volunteer Resources department by helping to recruit, place and recognize new and active volunteers. Tasks may include responding to volunteer inquiries, participating in volunteer orientations, supporting data management and assisting with basic administrative needs.
