"The Hyannis Rotary is honored to present a $14,000 grant to the Cape and Islands United Way Challenge to meet the American Red Cross Cape Cod and Islands Chapter's Disaster Preparedness Plan.  I would also like to use this opportunity to both thank and recognize the members of the Hyannis Rotary Club for their ongoing exceptional fine works towards meeting our Club goals of community leadership and service, "Wendy Northcross, President of Hyannis Rotary said.

Mary Cotoia, Chair of the Cape and Islands United Way presented Glen Beasley, Executive Director American Red Cross, Cape Cod and Islands Chapter with $7,000 as part of the special $100,000 United Way Community Challenge.  Ms Cotoia thanked the Hyannis Rotary members for their community leadership and challenged other businesses, organizations and community members to join the Rotary in this important campaign to prepare our community.

The Cape Cod and Islands Chapter Preparedness campaign will pre-position in the 23 communities of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket and its primary shelters the supplies to care for 100 people each supplemented by pre-positioned shelter supplies for an additional 6,000 potential evacuees. The portable Quick Response Modules like the one displayed in the picture can be deployed anywhere on Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard if a disaster event should occur. Hurry: Cape and Islands United Way $100,000 challenge grant to help Red Cross “Be Ready, Be Prepared” ends June 15th!

Mary Cotoia, 2007 Cape and Islands United Way Chairman said, “The Cape and Islands United Way is prepared to invest $100,000, our largest single grant ever, in our local Red Cross Chapter to “be ready and be prepared” in the form of a challenge grant, with the goal for this community to raise another $200,000 by June 15, 2007, the start of hurricane season.”

Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation supports American Red Cross, Cape Cod and Islands Be Ready, Be Prepared Campaign with $15,800. The grant will be used to purchase one complete mobile unit, with enough food and shelter supplies to support more than 500 people on Cape Cod and the Islands.


Edwards Bangs Kelley and Elza Kelley Foundation, Inc. supports American Red Cross, Cape Cod and Islands Be Ready, Be Prepared Campaign with $15,800

The grant will be used to purchase one complete Quick Response module.

We are extremely pleased with the generous support of the Kelley Foundation as this immediately benefits the residents of Cape Cod and the Islands. All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from people in our local communities. The goal for the Be Ready, Be Prepared campaign is to raise almost $400,000 and this donation will put us that much closer to the goal.Chapter Executive Director Glen Beasley said.
